10th July 2008

Popular Plymouth artist Paul Acraman will be exhibiting in Kingsbridge later this month in aid of Bantham Surf Life Saving Club.

His paintings will be on show at the town's trendy Ship pub from Monday 21 July until Tuesday 22 July, 11am until 5pm daily.

Paul's beautiful and colourful seascapes and landscapes in oils, pastels and watercolours will be on sale, with 25 per cent of all sales going to Bantham Surf Life Saving Club.

Some of Paul's work will be available as prints and cards.

There will also be a draw to win a framed, limited edition print by Paul - High Tide, Bantham. All of the proceeds from this draw will also go to Bantham Surf Life Saving Club.

Paul says: "My wife, Rosie, and I are proud to be associate members of the club and our son is a junior member, training to be a lifeguard. The club does a fantastic job, together with the RNLI, protecting us and our children on our local beach, and training the lifeguards of the future."

Bantham SLSC is committed to providing a safe beach and aquatic environment for the community, whilst developing life saving skills through the education and training of its members.

The club is dedicated to saving lives at Bantham through education of beach, sea and surf awareness and training young people to be lifeguards to work alongside the RNLI. The club is affiliated to the Surf Life Saving Association of Great Britain and Surf Life Saving Devon.

The club patrols the beach every Sunday throughout the summer and trains regularly in the week, and during the winter period. It provides training programmes for seniors (16 years old), juniors (13-15) and nippers (7-12) as well as enjoying regular social events.

Formed in 1960, the club operates from its own clubhouse, by virtue of a long lease on land owned by Evans Estates (1956) Ltd, which the club was able to construct with the benefit of one of the few major Lottery Awards that has been granted in the South West by Sport England.

Paul added: "The charity exhibitions are great fun to do. The support we get is tremendous and it is wonderful to be able to help people who spend their lives helping everyone else."
